PJHL - It's getting tight at the top of the Doherty Division.
This weekend brought the top four teams even closer together, now separated by a mere four points.
The Woodstock Navy Vets had a decent weekend with a win and a loss. On Friday, they fell 5-2 to the New Hamburg Firebirds at Southwood Arena. Griffin Sinden led the way in that one for the Vets with two points. Woodstock traveled to Paris on Saturday, and on the back of two goals scored by Nolan Brett, they were able to overcome the Mounties with a 5-4 win.
The Tavistock Braves and Norwich Merchants were able to take advantage of the loss Woodstock suffered, each going 2-0 over the weekend. The Braves beat the Wellesley Applejacks 5-1 on Friday, and scraped out a victory in overtime against New Hamburg. As for the Merchants, they had quite a dominant couple days, defeating Paris and Wellesley by a combined score of 12-1.
After the long weekend, Tavistock leads the way with 12 points, while Brandon Balasz of Norwich and Griffin Sinden of Woodstock share the division scoring lead with 6 goals and 5 assists each.
Outside the Doherty Division, the Thamesford Trojans beat the Lucan Irish 4-2 at home on Friday.
Local PJHL action returns tomorrow with a night game between the Applejacks and the Firebirds in Wellesley.
