With some hot weather for a few more weeks still, the Humane Society London and Middlesex says it's important pet owners are looking after their animals if leaving them outside.
WOODSTOCK - The Humane Society London and Middlesex is encouraging pet owners to look after their animals during the hot weather.
They offer tips like limiting their exercise outside and playing with them in a basement.
Executive Director Steve Ryall says if you also see an animal locked in a vehicle to contact police.
"Please make sure, as best you can, to make sure our animals are being looked after. If we can have them inside, have them inside. Please make sure they have water and try and limit the amount of time with them outside."
In addition to seeing a pet left in a car, he says if you see an opportunity to report cruelty or animal abuse, call 1-888-611-4756 and the HSLM team will be dispatched and they'll look into the report.
Ryall says a pet's time outside right now should not be long.
"I know I walked my dog last night and he was exhausted within five to seven minutes, so I know he'll be enjoying our basement today."
The Humane Society London and Middlesex serve Woodstock and Elgin County as of July 1st and they welcome donations, along with volunteers who are looking to raise awareness.
