CHP Candidate Profile: Jacob Watson

Jacob Watson would like to support local farmers and help ease the tax burden if he becomes a CHP MP for Oxford.

OXFORD COUNTY - He's a forklift operator for Stubbe's Precast by day, but he's also in the running to become our next Member of Parliament.

Jacob Watson is the Christian Heritage Party (CHP) candidate for Oxford County.

He grew up on a 50 acre property on Oxford Road 33 north of Woodstock, where his dad and his grandfather used to be pig farmers. If he's elected later this month, Watson would like to become an advocate for those still working in agriculture.

"I'd want to protect supply management, but I'd also want the other side of the coin to be heard so the farmers, start up farmers, and farmers that sit outside of supply management (ex: hog farms) can have an opportunity to have a slice of the pie because currently they don't get it."

Watson was very into sports when he was growing up. Once he got older, he helped design a ninja warrior course for the community at Open Sky Adventures in Woodstock, back when it was run by Paul Dryer.

Watson found himself getting involved in church ministries in his early 20s and his currently leading an Evangelism team at his church.

He has been married to his wife for five and a half years now, and they're hoping welcome a child in the near future.

Easing the tax burden, so family life can be encouraged and thrive is another thing on Watson's to do list if he's elected.

"Our party is really based on building up families, so we'd be advocating for a fair tax reformation so it would be easier to have one stay at home parent and one parent working. We would also really push for the advocation of life."

He says the CHP platform highlights three key points.

"All of our polices are to maximize life, family and freedom because we believe these are the essential building blocks. Without one or the other, no other right really matters."

The CHP platform believes moral policies are just as important as matters such as infrastructure. Watson believes there is a large number of people in Oxford who agree with this.

"I feel its really important to run so I can represent those people, so they have an opportunity to have their voice heard and proper representation in our government."

The federal election is scheduled for April 28th.
