A paddle boarder was able to rescue a 7 year old girl who had drifted over a kilometre away from the shoreline at Long Point on Tuesday.
LONG POINT - A dramatic rescue at Long Point on Tuesday evening.
A 7 year old girl was riding on a floatation device when she drifted 1 kilometre away from the shoreline. Norfolk OPP and the Norfolk Fire Department were called into help.
Luckily a paddle boarder was able to rescue the girl and bring her back to safety just before the responders arrived.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says nobody was injured.
"The OPP would like to thank the Good Samaritan that recognized that this young girl was in trouble and immediately brought her back to shore. Parents and caregivers are also being reminded to stay within an arm's reach of their children while they are playing in the water, and if they are weak swimmers to ensure that a life jacket or Personal Flotation Device is always worn."
