OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Library and Woodstock Public Library are again teaming up for the 2020 edition of Oxford Reads.
This community-wide reading initiative highlights a featured work of Canadian literature each year and offers additional programming to enhance the shared reading experience. This year’s selection is Crow, the debut novel from Cape Breton-native Amy Spurway, which was shortlisted for the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour.
Crow, follows the story of Stacey Fortune, a young woman diagnosed with three highly unpredictable and inoperable brain tumours. When Stacey is diagnosed, she abandons the crumbling glamour of her life in Toronto for her mother Effie's scruffy trailer in rural Cape Breton. Back home, she’s known as Crow, and everybody suspects that her family is cursed.
Now in its third year, Oxford Reads aims to connect readers across the County while celebrating Canadian literature and fostering discussion. Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, and the physical distancing measures in place, this year's program will have an online focus, with hopeful plans for a gala this fall featuring the author.
Those who are interested in reading Crow can place a hold on the book at oxfordreads.ca. A reading guide is also available. Woodstock Public Library is open for curbside pickup, as are Oxford County Library branches in Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, Norwich, Tavistock and Thamesford. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the book can do so at Merrifield Book Shop in Woodstock.
