5 books, both fiction and nonfiction have made it to the finals. Voting goes until May 23 and the winner will be announced in June.
OXFORD COUNTY - Voting is open for the 2025 Oxford Reads title.
For the eighth year in a row, Oxford County Library and Woodstock Public Library are partnering for this community-wide reading initiative.
Almost 40 books were nominated by staff as well as patron members, according to the System Support Librarian for Oxford County Library and Spokesperson for Oxford Reads, Sarah Adams.
“Oxford Reads is a community reading program where we encourage everyone from our community to read the same book so that we can have some really great conversations about the themes and the topics and different things that inspire us about the book and maybe relate to our everyday lives and we try to pick a book that really relates to Oxford County and and the residents of Oxford County.”
Five books made it to the finals and they are a mix of fiction and non-fiction.
The finalists are:
- ‘Adrift’ by Lisa Brideau - A fiction book with a theme of climate change.
- ‘At a Loss for Words: Conversations in Age of Rage’ by Carol Off - A nonfiction novel of essays regarding today’s polarizing world.
- ‘Life in Two Worlds: A Coach’s Journey from the Reserve to the NHL and Back’ by Ted Nolan - a nonfiction memoir of Nolan’s life. He discusses growing up on a reserve, getting into hockey and the racism that was woven into his career.
- ‘Spoon Stealer’ by Lesley Crewe - A heartwarming fiction book set in Nova Scotia. It’s about family, resilience, and the power of second chances.
- ‘We Spread’ by Iain Reid - Is a psychological thriller discussing aging, isolation, and the nature of our existence.
Voting is open now until May 23. The winning title will be announced in June and the author will be invited to the Oxford Reads Gala this fall.
