There is always a chance of becoming a victim of a scam. Oxford OPP is sending out a reminder to all residents.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County OPP are wanting to remind residents of potential fraud.
Police are asking for family and friends to help each other and ensure they don't fall victim to a scam.
Scams can be in many different forms, including texts, emails, phone calls, social media, and letters in the mail.
The results of the scams are not always immediate or obvious.
It is important to keep a close eye on your bank and credit card statements and to contact your financial institution if there is a transaction that does not seem legitimate.
Police say it is important to be on the lookout for time constraints, as scammers often pressure the potential victim to make a quick decision.
A few things you can do as a precaution are, write down as much information as possible, research the phone number, company name, or email, run the situation by a trusted friend or family member, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, visit the scams website for more information on common scams, and review the little black book of scams, available from the Government of Canada, in several languages by clicking here.
If you suspect that you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or your local police detachment.
