A 45-year-old man had to be taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an Oxford OPP officer fired their gun on Friday.
OXFORD/CAMBRIDGE - The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after an OPP officer fired their gun during an investigation.
The Oxford detachment responded to a report of a person jumping out of a moving vehicle on Oxford Road 6 and getting back in that same vehicle at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Officers were able to pull the vehicle over on the eastbound Highway 401 in Cambridge, close to Homer Watson Boulevard, about an hour later.
An officer fired their gun during that interaction, and the 45-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The SIU investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or discharge of a firearm. It has assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to this case.
