Oxford Garden Fresh Box Program Gets a Boost

WDDS has $25,000 more to support their Oxford Garden Fresh Box Program. "Basically, it gives people an opportunity to buy produce from our local farmers in a new way. They buy vouchers from us each month and then they come and pick up their produce," said Community Development Co-ordinator at WDDS Deb Roloson. Keith Hudson with the Oxford Community Foundation says the donation was made possible through the Harvey and Erma Endowment Fund. "The actual fund is held by the London Community Foundation. The fund is set up as recognition of the work of Harvey and Erma Beaty who originally established Cold Springs Farms (now Maple Leaf Inc.)," said Hudson. Jean Carson with Maple Leaf Foods helps manage the fund. She thinks this is a great program to support: "Not only does it support and provide employment for the members here, but it also provides really good, nutritious food for people in this area. It's a perfect match for us and we're just thrilled to be able to provide some funding for it." If you want to participate this month, vouchers must be bought at WDDS by the 15th. The pickup at WDDS is scheduled for the last Tuesday of every month, which is the 26th this month.
