Oxford County Council has approved a 10 year master plan for Oxford County Paramedic Services.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has approved a Comprehensive Master Plan for Oxford County Paramedic Services.
Chief Ben Addley says they're looking to improve their response times over the next 10 years.
"Given that the majority of our calls happen in the urban areas of Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Ingersoll; our response times and coverage were better in those areas, leaving the rural area with less coverage at times."
It took about 8 or 9 minutes for Oxford paramedics to respond to an urban medical emergency back in 2016. But those times would jump to about 10 or 20 minutes if the emergency was in a rural area.
Chief Ben Addley explains how they are planning to address this issue.
"Improving the coverage in a couple of our urban centres such as Tillsonburg and Woodstock, so they become more self sufficient and allow our rural stations to remain in their locations. So basically they're at their stations and they're available to respond in the rural community."
They would like to add another five ambulances to their fleet over the next 10 or 15 years, bringing their total up to 17. They would also like to either build a new EMS station in Woodstock, or expand the one currently located on Bysham Park.
The plan is available online in Oxford County Council Agenda from April 11th 2018, starting on page 39.
