Oxford County is starting to get serious about their Zero Waste Commitment.
Oxford County is currently in the process of accepting proposals that will help the County become a Zero Waste Community.
They are currently seeking proposals for a detailed audit of the current waste stream and an assessment of resource recovery technologies. Manager of Strategic Initiatives Jay Heaman tells Heart FM what they hope to accomplish with the audit.
"So it's trying to determine exactly what is in the waste that is going into the landfill at Salford and also what waste is leaving the County from the industrial, commercial and institutional sectors."
It is going to take a dramatic reduction in the volume of garbage at our landfills to expand the lifespan of Oxford's landfill site to 2100 and beyond.
The request for proposals are separate and the deadline is Monday December 19th.
Oxford County is also asking the public to come forward with their ideas on how we could reduce the amount of garbage being diverted to the landfill. You can voice your opinion on the Speak Up Oxford page where you can see the Draft Zero Waste Plan in full and submit questions, ideas and comments.
