Oxford County Quilty Pleasures Still Going Strong

To date the Oxford County Quilty Pleasures group has donated over 4,000 masks, scrub caps, scrub sacks and ear savers to front line workers and are now giving out masks to the general public.

OXFORD COUNTY - An amazing group of quilters has been supplying masks to a number of front line workers in Oxford County.

The Oxford County Quilty Pleasures started sewing masks at the start of the pandemic and sending them to front line workers. They currently have 320 members, with many sewers, a team of cutters, button sewers, runners and people who are willing to do whatever they need to do to help. It is a full time job for organizers Kathy Killaire and Kelly Cowell, but they say it's more than worth it.

Together the team has made around 3,100 masks and they also make head bands, scrub caps, scrub sacks and ear savers for hospital staff. Well over 4,000 helpful items given out to front line workers.

The group was started by Kathy Killaire, who had just taken a beginner quilting class in the winter. She called one her classmates and friends, Kelly Cowell and they got to work. Once they created the Facebook group, that's when things really took off. Killaire says they couldn't have done this without their amazing team of women.

"Such a great team of women, we couldn't do it without them. I have heard from more then one of them that this is making there lock down bearable. It gives them something to keep them busy, and is so needed."

They have had people ask if they can send money to buy supplies, or donate to the cause. Killaire says they talked about it, and wanted to support a local charity right now, so they started collecting donations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.

"The generous people receiving these items have donated over $3,000.00 to help big brothers big sisters. my heart over flows with the generosity of our community."
