OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Pride Committee is cancelling their in person Pride events in June due to COVID-19.
They are however working towards making a virtual Pride event instead. President Tami Murray says they are going virtual on June 20th.
"We are going to have some musical entertainment, we are going to have Victor Quinlyn who is a transgender performer, the Pairs are going to be performing and we are very excited to be featuring Sarah Smith this year on our family day virtually as well. We are going to continue with our Storytime with the Queens, we are going to be adding some yoga and kickboxing too."
They will also be giving out the Tyrell Maas Pride Leadership award on the 20th as well. Murray explains why it is important to host a Pride event, even if they can't do it in person.
"Human Rights don't stop with a pandemic, actually they increase and I think they highlight the need for us to be mobilizing as a community, and supporting each other as a community, especially those who are in a marginalized community like the LGBTQ+. I think if anything, this highlights our adversity and our ability to challenge that adversity, as we have had to for generation after generation."
More information will be released closer to the date and you can find out more online here. You can listen to the full interview with Tami Murray on Heart FM mornings with Cody and Sabrina below.
