Oxford County Council has agreed to put an application forth for a loan to help with the Woodstock Police Service expansion. City Council still needs to grant approval.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County Council has approved a by-law to submit an application for a loan from the Ontario Infrastructure Lands Co-operation.
The 4.4 million dollar loan would be used to help fix up the Woodstock Police Station.
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch says the money would help bring the entire police force under one roof with a new expansion;
"We have a force that has outgrown the current facilities and we have been using a rented facility for our investigations unit. So this brings all of the police force back under the main roof of the police station and will serve us well over the next 10 to 15 years".
Birtch adds that renovations would also be done in the existing facility:
"A lot has changed over the years and we need more cells for female prisoners and also for those with mental health challenges".
Woodstock City Council must also approve the application Thursday night before it can be submitted.
