MPP Ernie Hardeman is hoping to hear from all business owners in Oxford about what impacts their businesses.
OXFORD COUNTY - Local business owners are encouraged to fill out a survey sent out by Oxford's MPP.
Ernie Hardeman says the results from last year's survey pegged a few common problem areas: "The cost of hydro, and the cost of red tape, and whether that cost was increasing or decreasing. So we want to know if over the past year that has changed. And if that has changed for the positive we want to hear that, and if it's changed for the negative we want to hear that even more because obviously our job is to make sure that we try to get the government to understand what is negatively impacting our businesses."
Hardeman says he's interested to see if progress is really being made. "We hear a lot of comments about, 'We're reducing the amount of red tape.' I haven't seen that. And last year when we did the review the businesses didn't see that either. I'm very curious again this year whether in fact they have seen a reduction in red tape."
Hardeman also hopes the data collected might help them recognize patterns and trends. "The survey is phrased similar or based on the questions that were there last year and how they were answered: 'Which are the biggest issues with our issues last year? Are they still the biggest issues this year? And if not, what are they?' So we want to build some consistency in this survey so we can see over time if they government is headed in the right direction."
The survey has been sent out to most businesses by now. If you haven't received it, Hardeman says it should arrive shortly.
