LONDON - College students in Woodstock and across Ontario have not been able to go to class for the past two weeks because of a faculty strike.
The strike involves more than 12,000 professors, instructors, counsellors, and librarians across the province. The main issues are fairness for contract faculty, a voice for faculty is academic decision making and academic freedom as well as maintaining a stable flow of full time faculty.
OPSEU President for local 110 representing Fanshawe College including the Woodstock Campus Darryl Bedford explains that the faculty understand the students frustrations...
"Their understanding, they understand why were fighting for what were fighting for. Their very frustrated and we would like to be back in the classrooms, the libraries and in the counselling offices."
The OPSEU Local 110 is holding a rally in London October 26th where they will march to the constinency office of Deb Matthews.
"We're not hearing anything from the college employer council. We'd like to go back to the table and for that effort we are holding a rally on Thursday at the Victoria Park in London"
