The OPP's aviation division is using Thermal Imaging Technology in order to detect unsafe vehicles on the roads.
In the past couple of months, provincial police have been keeping an eye on commercial vehicle safety using Thermal Imaging Technology. This technology is helping OPP officers in aircrafts, detect over heated brakes and bearings on these vehicles, which can lead to an off wheel incident.
Inspector Brad Coulbeck says using this technology; they hope to make roads safer.
"These types of preventable issues lead to injury and death on our roadways. Through ongoing education and enforcement we are committed to making our roads safer for everyone."
Officers tracked down three potentially dangerous vehicles on the 401 Thursday. Two of the three have been taken out of service since then.
These officers also stopped a dump truck hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with an excavator. They say driver of the truck did not have an oversized load permit, failed to provide a trip inspection report and the load with overhanging markers was not secure. On top of all of this, the truck had brake defects and diesel fuel was leaking out of the fuel tank on the passenger side.
OPP would like to remind the public that road safety is a shared responsibility and if you see anything that concerns you, you should report it immediately.
