The OPP will be on the lookout for speeders, impaired drivers, distracted drivers and people not wearing a seatbelt this long weekend.
ONTARIO - The OPP will be out in full force this long weekend targeting the Big Four causes of collisions.
Police will be targeting speeders, people not wearing a seatbelt, impaired drivers and distracted drivers. These are the four leading causes of fatalities on our roadways.
The long weekends are always a busy time on Ontario highways, and with the Province in Stage 3, this long weekend is expected to be one of the busiest since the start of the pandemic.
Very few OPP-investigated road fatalities are the result of an "accident" where no driver is at fault. Already this year, OPP have responded to 131 fatal collisions in Ontario. 137 people have died in those collisions.
Police are also preaching safety on the water, where 17 people have died thus far in 2021.
