OPP officers will be keeping teddy bears inside their cruisers, in order to help comfort children after they experience a traumatic event.
OXFORD COUNTY - Members of the OPP and the OPP Youth Foundation want to help the children feel safe with their Community Bear Program.
Police will be giving children teddy bears to ensure that they are comforted in hard times. Sergeant Dave Rektor explains.
"It's just an opportunity for us to ensure that the kids that we deal with that are involved with traumatic situations are comforted during some tough times."
Rektor also talks about the positive impact these bears have on the children.
"The police officer now has this tool available to give the kid. I've seen it unfold many times and you see the delight on the child's face when the officer gives the bear to them and it has this instant calming effect on them."
All OPP cruisers will be equip with the cuddly companions, as officers try to help children as possible.
