OPP officers will be on the lookout for aggressive driving behaviours around school buses.
SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO - The West Region OPP has launched a school bus safety campaign.
In video posted on the OPP West Region X page yesterday morning, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk explained why.
"Police investigated 12 collisions involving school buses in the last 40 days in various communities across southwestern Ontario here in West Region."
He also mentioned what officers will be on the lookout for from May 12th to May 15th.
"We're going to be focusing our attention on those drivers that are aggressively driving near school buses; following too closely, speeding and unsafe passing. The last thing that we want to do is knock on someone's door saying their young innocent child has been seriously injured or killed as a result of am impatient driver."
The OPP will also keep an eye out for those who are not stopping for school buses that their stop arm is out and their lights are flashing.
Stopping for a school bus is NOT optional, it's the LAW! #OPP kicking off school bus safety campaign! It will run from May 12 to 15 and officers will focus on those drivers who put our children, other motorists and pedestrians at risk. Please #DriveSafely. #WROPP ^es pic.twitter.com/RIprd48r1r
