Anyone looking for companionship this Christmas is invited to Operation Sharing's annual Christmas Day event.
WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing will be opening their doors for their eleventh annual Christmas Day celebration.
Chaplain and Executive Director at Operation Sharing Stephen Giuliano says in the first year 85 people showed up. Last year there were more than 300 throughout the day.
"It opens its doors at 10:30am on Christmas Day morning and goes until 3:30 in the afternoon and all are welcome. You don't have to necessarily be identified as someone who is less fortunate, there may be people who are feeling alone on Christmas Day and want to be part of a larger community to celebrate Christmas."
Giuliano says there is something for the whole family. "We have lots of music, we have board games, we have prizes, we have raffles. We have a tremendous amount of food donations from a variety of sources. It's not a sit down meal, it's a drop in where people can come and go throughout the day and it's just very enjoyable to see the faces on people as they partake in the day."
Giuliano says it all started eleven years ago when he had several people tell him they were not looking forward to Christmas. "They were becoming increasingly depressed the closer Christmas Day came. I thought we need -- this is an important part of our outreach at Operation Sharing I believe to have something like this so people have something to look forward to and being with others at a very special time of the year."
The Christmas Day event takes place at College Ave United Church located at 22 Wilson Street in Woodstock from 10:30 - 3:30pm Christmas Day. All are welcome.
