Stop by the Operation Sharing Christmas Day Event for good food, good friends, and some Christmas cheer!
WOODSTOCK - Operation Sharing is throwing open the doors of the College Ave Church once again for the Christmas Day Event.
Executive Director with Operation Sharing Stephen Giuliano says this is a chance for people to connect and find belonging. "We felt that is was important for people to have a place to come if they were alone, if they'd lost loved ones, people that normally didn't have a lot of money on Christmas day. So the first year eleven years ago we had 79 people come through the doors and now this past year we had well over 350 throughout the day."
For many people this event makes a big difference during what can be a very lonely time."I've had people tell me in the past - I used to dread Christmas, now I look forward to it," Giuliano says. "And so we have a variety of foods, board games, prizes, everyone receives a gift regardless of financial situation. Those less fortunate do a lot of work setting up the hall before we begin." Giuliano says they welcome anyone who wants to lend a hand, but if there's no work to be done then those 'volunteers' can just pull up a chair, pick up a board game, and have some fun getting to know some new people.
"It's really a place to come and be with others and enjoy good live music," Giuliano says. "We never know what really is going to happen sometimes but it ends up being better and better every year and it's certainly a big part of my own Christmas. Doors open at 10:30 in the morning on Christmas Day and it goes until approximately 3:30 in the afternoon. Come on in when you want to after that time, you don't need to sign up."
Giuliano says this is a time for everyone to drop by, have fun, and celebrate the season.
