Woodstock City Council have approved their 2015 Operating Budget
WOODSTOCK - After several days and thorough discussion Woodstock City Council passed their 2015 Operating Budget. The budget included the passage of the police service budget, an additional firefighter and frozen funding for the Woodstock Art Gallery. Council approved the 2015 Operating Budget after several amendments were made including slightly reducing the police services budget.
"That's based on all of the work that went in at the police services board which included the settling of the contracts for both the officers and the civilians for the first time since 1996 without going to arbitration," said Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch.
Both the Operating and Capital Budget have now been approved. Birtch points out that the operating budget represents "certain staffing increases for increased programming, we have also approved the capital budget one of the largest in recent years for the city which includes the start of the recreation complex and also the renovation and addition to our downtown police department."
As for how the budget will affect the taxpayer bill, Birtch said it is unclear at this point in time.
