Those who already received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in Ontario will able to choose which vaccine they would prefer for their second dose.
ONTARIO - Ontarians who received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as their first dose, will have more of a choice when it comes to their second shot.
The province is going to follow the National Advisory Committee on Immunization's recommendation, in allowing those who already received the AstraZeneca shot to choose if they want the same vaccine for their second dose or if they would prefer Pfizer or Moderna.
Starting tomorrow, those who decide to go with AstraZeneca again for their second shot will be able to book their second dose appointment if they received their first shot 12 weeks ago.
The province says those who decide to go with Pfizer or Moderna for their second shot should be able to register for a "second dose only" through the provincial booking system starting next week. It says the option should also be available through public health units that use their own booking system, such as Southwestern Public Health.
Those seeking Pfizer or Moderna for their second dose also have to wait 12 weeks after receiving their first dose of AstraZeneca.
The province is no longer administering first doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine due to concerns regarding a rare blood clot disorder.
