Environment Canada says it is probable we will be hit with a special air quality statement at some point this week as the winds continue to push the smoke south.
WOODSTOCK - Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for a good chunk of the Province stretching all the way from Toronto to Algonquin.
The deteriorating air quality is caused by forest fires raging out of control in the northern part of the Province. Meteorologist Peter Kimbell explains why one hasn't been issued for Woodstock yet.
"Well the air quality is marginally better, the area of poor air quality associated with the fires in northwestern Ontario, really was affecting areas in the GTA and east of the GTA and not so much Southwestern Ontario."
Kimbell says he expects the smoke will hit Southwestern Ontario.
"It's probable that the smoke will return over Southwestern Ontario at some point this week because the winds continue to be from the northwest, pushing the smoke south."
Most people will not be impacted by the air quality in our region. Enfant's, elderly and people with cardiovascular and lung disease are the most susceptible. Symptoms of poor air quality can lead to coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath.
