The province is home to over 600,000 French speakers, making up almost 5% of the total population
ONTARIO - The Minister of Francophone Affairs, Caroline Mulroney, is celebrating international Francophonie Day with the Province of Ontario.
She noted that the French-speaking community in the province has an over 400-year-long history and is an invaluable asset.
Mulroney says at the last Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie, Ontario signed its first international agreement to advance the Francophonie since being included as an observer in the organization in 2016.
The province is a member of the organization's Parliamentary Assembly, which represents the interests of French-speaking communities, promotes democracy, the rule of law, and the respect of human rights around the world.
As of the most recent census, the province is home to over 600,000 French speakers, making up almost 5% of the total population.
