$500 isn't a lot of money, but it will make a big difference for a small Thamesford group. The Oxford Community Foundation has helped to seed the "Cooking Connexion", that brings older, senior residents of Thamesford together to cook and enjoy a meal. The $500 will help the group purchase some supplies to get the program running. President of the Oxford Community Foundation, Bill Semeniuk says since the group isn't a registered charity, they had to seed the money through Zorra Township. "Township council sees it as a worthwhile project as well and Thamesford United Church is providing space for their program. I think it's a win-win overall." Semeniuk says the Cooking Connexion isn't just about the food, it's about the social interaction amongst single seniors. "Seniors sometimes feel like a little bit overlooked, unfortunately. And it's not just the meal aspect, it's the socialization and keeping in touch with their community." Participants pay $7.00 per session and if there are any leftovers, they get to take this extra food home to enjoy a second day or share with a shut-in friend.
