A study done by Southwestern Health shows that only half of the adults get a good sleep at night
OXFORD COUNTY - A recent study by Southwestern Health shows that half of us don't get a good nights sleep.
The report was done on adults living in Oxford County, Elgin County, and St. Thomas and numbers are higher than ever in this study. Results also showed that women have a harder time getting a healthy sleep at night then men do, and this could be linked to biological, environmental, or behavioural factors. Epidemiologist Melissa Macloud has more on the health issue.
"Sleep is linked to many different health outcomes which makes it so important for public health. Some results of sleep trouble are impaired memory, lack of attention, motor vehicle crashes, workplace incidents, diabetes, depression, hypertension, obesity, cancer, the list goes on and on."
Macloud also adds;
"Insomnia is a health condition where someone's not choosing to not sleep they just can't. We would always that if you can sleep that you should be getting between 7-10 hours of sleep per night if your an adult."
With the advances in technology and the increase in use of it, technology can be part of the blame. Employment demands, shift work and income can also be at fault for lack of sleep.
