Roy King was a truck driver for 47 years and now he wants to be the Ward 1 Councillor for Norwich Township.
TOWNSHIP OF NORWICH - The Township of Norwich is gearing up for another by-election.
Ward 1, which covers the southern portion of the Township, is looking for someone to take the seat. The seat became vacant after John Scholten retired from the position at the end of 2023.
Roy King has put his name forward. He worked as a truck driver for 47 years, spending with 31 of those years with Holland Hitch and his last few years with CNC Transportation. He retired last April and now he would like to be a Township Councillor full time.
He says there is one big issue he has seen.
"The main thing is, enforcing our bylaws for the better of our Township. There's bylaws being taken advantage of as far as I'm concerned. I would like to provide a safe and friendly place in the Township of Norwich for everyone to live in."
King is also looking to provide safe roads, recruit more doctors, and maintain a better budget for our roads and bridges. He mentions being a part of the Township his whole life and living in Otterville for the past 54 years.
King explains why he put his name in for this byelection.
"I was just out walking around, and people came up to me and said you have to run this time, and it was so close last time. I ran back in 2014, and John beat me by six votes."
He says he wants to be the new voice for the residents and make sure the community is one that gives the best quality of life to the people calling it home.
Advance polls open on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Springford Community Hall and the main polling date is Monday, May 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. also at Springford Community Hall.
