Marty Klein running for Mayor now that John Lessif has resigned.
TILLSONBURG -- Current Tillsonburg councillor Marty Klein has his eyes set on the mayoral position.
Klein switched his nomination Wednesday from Deputy Mayor to Mayor after news broke that John Lessif would be leaving the post at the end of the month.
"I had thought about running for mayor but I thought well you know, give John another term and see what happens but after he resigned, I started to think about it and I'm surprised by the number of phone calls and emails from people encouraging me to change my nomination."
"I have the background, the experience and the time to do the job. You know I grew up here, I went to school here, my kids went to school here, all my friends and family are here so I care about the future of the community because I'm also a consumer of what the community offers."
Klein says the added responsibility of sitting on County Council doesn't phase him.
"It really adds to the time commitment and I'm retired and I've been travelling a lot and doing things but I think it's time I do this and I'm very comfortable being on County Council, I know most of the people, I understand how things work, I would be an advocate for the County and particularly for the town of Tillsonburg."
Klein says when the time comes, he will be putting his name forward to fill the position of Mayor until the election in October.
Current Deputy Mayor Mark Renaud has also filed papers for mayor.
