Noise Bylaw Exemption Granted for Overpass Construction

Construction for the Norwich Avenue overpass has been granted an exemption from the noise bylaw so they can work through the night.

WOODSTOCK - A noise by-law exemption has been granted in Woodstock.

The 401 overpass structure at Norwich Avenue will require replacement. Councillor Jerry Acchione explains why the noise by-law was granted for construction. "The reason for the noise by-law is for necessary work for the Ministry of Transportation. It is necessary work that needs to be done. Of course it is going to be during night; it is hard to control some of the noises because after 11 o'clock the rules do change." The current overpass will be demolished so a new one can be constructed.  

"They came forward asking for an exemption to the rule and we voted unanimously to allow it,"says Councillor Acchione. "And no it is not permanent at all. It is just during the work periods." The exemption will be in effect from  May of 2016 until October of 2017.

Councillor Acchione discussed if this will impact any residents of the Friendly City. "There's no immediate residential people that we expect it to interfere with, so it was a fairly easy exemption." This could cause a severe traffic detour as the overpass is a heavily travelled route in the city.
