New Response Time Mandate For EMS

Oxford County Council has approved an Ambulance Response Time Plan for next year.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has approved an Ambulance Response Time Plan for next year.

Chief Ben Addley says it is the county's responsibility each year to determine how often they think county EMS services can hit the provincial standard.

"The 8 minute response time is set in regulation by the Ministry of Health and then we set the percentage of time in which we can meet that 8 minute target. We have set that at 70 percent consistently for several years."

Addley is glad local paramedics have been able to exceed that goal.

"Last year we were able to hit it 76.7 percent of the time. This year we are down slightly but still achieving a 76 percent that we're getting to those acute calls."

The county has implemented another 70 percent target for 2018.

Addley says the call volume is the largest challenge they face when responding to calls, adding they have to cover the busier urban areas as well as the quieter rural areas.
