Tillsonburg residents will soon have another option when it comes to specimen collection.
TILLSONBURG - A new medical collection lab is set to open in Tillsonburg.
Lifelabs is opening a facility at 86 Brock Street East later this month or early into February.
Director of Public Affairs for Lifelabs Mitchell Toker says they have a large test menu for patients. "Tests such as glucose testing for diabetes, urinalyses -- measuring things like proteins and sugar, complete blood counts or cbc tests. We also provide more complex tests like tests for hepatitis and specialized tests." He says for the most part the tests they provide are the same that are offered through the outpatient clinic currently at the Tillsonburg Hospital.
"We felt that Tillsonburg was a bit under-serviced in terms of presence of collection centres," continued Toker. "With the hospital's decision to close the outpatient service, that need is even greater."
"Patients with requisitions can show up during our hours. The collection centre will operate from 7:30 in the morning until 3:30pm Monday to Friday. A feature that Lifelabs has is patients are able to make online appointments."
Toker says the vast majority of tests they provide are publicly funded just like at a hospital.
Lifelabs currently have labs in Ingersoll, Woodstock and Delhi.
