New City Website Ahead in 2013

Bringing Woodstock's website up into the 21st century. That's one of the main goals of this year's budget. Economic Development presented their plan to councillors last night, asking for $85,000 in 2013 to build a new City of Woodstock website. Last year, the department spruced up it's own website, "Come to the Crossroads", which has received positive reviews. But Development Commissioner Len Magyar described the city's current site as dated (in photo), and one that isn't all that user friendly. One of the common complaints about the current site, is that people have trouble navigating it for the information they're seeking, and that the search function doesn't yield the results people are looking for. Magyar says they want a search tool that is more "intuitive" in the next generation website. Magyar also told Heart FM about another new development being planned for the new site. "A major component is moving into the next century in terms of taking on-line payments. So we've had a number of people with dog tags, and that sort of thing that why rather than coming to City Hall to do that kind of thing, or leaving their homes, why couldn't they just do that on-line? That's a major component we're planning for the new site as well." Magyar says there will even be discussion with the Treasury department around allowing residents to pay their property tax bill on-line. Should council approve the item, it would go out to tender immediately and take a few months to develop once the contract is approved. If all goes to plan, look for a fall launch for the new site.
