Andrea Horwath had a full itinerary yesterday, but made time to show support to local candidate Tara King.
OXFORD COUNTY - NDP Leader Andrea Horwath paid a visit to the Friendly City yesterday.
Last night Horwath stopped by the office of local candidate Tara King to speak with members of the public and offer support for King.
Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey was among the attendees. He asked the party leader if she will help in their efforts to move and stop the dump.
Horwath was quick to answer.
"Yeah, I mean there is no way that municipalities should be completely shut down and overwritten when it comes to the land uses in your county and so we're with you 100%.
When asked about the high-speed rails, she stated that the communities affected should be considered.
"Well one of the things that we need to make sure is that if there is a rail project that happens it has to integrate all of the communities around and not interfere with agricultural land and to protect all the small towns that are throughout the southwest of Ontario."
She also said Tara King will be able to help her with these issues.
"One of the important things that we're going to need is people who understand local communities to be at the table as we put the plan together."
