The Beachville District Museum will celebrate the launch of the Bedrock of Beachville online exhibit tonight.
BEACHVILLE - The Beachville District Museum is set to launch its brand new online Bedrock of Beachville exhibit, with the museum hosting a launch event to celebrate.
The event will take place this evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Program Room to officially kick off Bedrock of Beachville: The History of Our Limestone Quarries.
Sidney Williams, Curator of the Beachville District Museum, says the way they built the exhibit, gives them new ways to capture the history.
"The exhibit itself is online and that gives us a really unique avenue to pursue all these different media and overall components. There are a lot of personal histories that have been recorded and those soundbites have actually been included in the exhibit."
Attendees are invited to enjoy displays of artifacts and photographs related to the quarries, browse the online exhibit using available devices or print-outs, and share their stories of quarry memories or experiences at an oral history booth.
On top of having specific artifacts in the exhibit, Williams says they are also looking forward to having real-life stories being told at the launch.
"We're excited to welcome everyone to this exhibit. We know that the quarries have impacted a lot of people throughout history since they first began excavations, so it has been a really big part of the community."
Light refreshments will also be provided, with attendance being free and no registration required.
The online project was developed with the support of the Digital Museums Canada investment program, which helps build digital capacity in Canadian museums and heritage organizations as well as gives Canadians unique access to diverse stories and experiences.
The exhibit itself can be seen on the museum's website as well as through the Digital Museums Canada page.
