WOODSTOCK - More Woodstock area farms have been put under quarantine to stop the spread of avian flu.
So far the disease has killed 75 hundred turkeys since last Friday. Eight farms in the Woodstock area have been placed under a quarantine because of their proximity to the initial outbreak.
Paul Mayers of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the quarantines are in place to contain and minimize any potential spread of the disease, but he reminds residents that humans who do not have consistant contact with the birds are rarely affected by the disease.
As long as poultry and all it's by products are safely handed and cooked, avian flu does not pose a risk to food safety.
