Some minor flooding is expected to occur in low lying areas with heavy rain in the forecast over the next couple of days.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is keeping a close eye on the weather right now.
Rain is the forecast for tonight and tomorrow with the possibility of thunderstorms overnight. The ground is already saturated so all of the rain will be running off into the watercourses.
Senior Water Resources Engineer Mark Helsten says they are expecting the water levels to remain very high for the next 7 days.
"We expect the rain to keep streams and rivers high all week. Flows will start to peak on Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday, as the crest moves downstream into London."
The UTRCA reminds residents to use extreme caution near all watercourses, and keep children and pets away. Streambanks are slippery, the water is very cold, and any remaining ice is unstable and thin.
Some minor flooding is expected in low lying areas and the UTRCA will continue to monitor the situation depending on how much rain we get over the next two days.
The UTRCA’s flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood and Pittock Conservation Areas will be operated to assist in managing runoff.
