Animals can get micro-chipped for $30 this weekend
WOODSTOCK -- Pet owners can protect their animals while helping out a local charity.
The Oxford County Animal Rescue group are holding a micro-chip clinic at the new, Oxford County Veterinary Clinic on Ingersoll Ave in Woodstock this weekend.
Saturday, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, pet owners can bring their furry friends in to be chipped for a discounted rate of $30.
Melissa Wieler of the Animal Rescue says the process is quick and painless for the animals. "It's very simple. The chip itself is about the size of a grain of rice so it only takes a couple of minutes, they insert the chip and the animal doesn't even remember it happened and they're good to go."
Wieler says they have over 50 chips available for the clinic and are hoping they'll sell all of them. It is a first come, first served basis so Wieler encourages people to arrive early.
The fees from the clinic will go into the Animal Rescue's account at the vet clinic to be used for future spay and neuters as well as other emergency procedures for their rescues.
Wieler highlights that micro-chipping can go a long way in protecting your pets. "I know there was one dog that just sat at a shelter facility for almost two weeks and they couldn't get a hold of the owners -- and it was actually going to be pulled by another rescue which then would have been adopted out. But through Facebook networking we were lucky to get a hold of the owners but if the dog was micro-chipped, they would have known as soon as they picked it up."
Separate from the fundraiser, the Vet Clinic is also hosting their Rabies Clinic Saturday from 9 to 2 in support of World Rabies Day.
