Meridian Credit Union is sharing the wealth today. The local branch of Canada's largest credit union delivered a $1500 cheque to Sakura House. Oxford's only residential hospice will use the money for their day-to-day operations which runs about $400,000 a year. Woodstock Branch Manager for Meridian, Rory Campbell talks about why they chose Sakura House. "It's a great organization working in the Woodstock community. We felt that it was a worthy cause and one that plays an important role in the community." The money came from Meridian's "Good Neighbour Program", which supports charities and projects in the communities where Meridian operates. Fund Development Coordinator for Sakura House, Kyra McNamara, says the money is a help to the ongoing operations of the hospice. "The funding goes towards our annual operating campaign...it's a large amount of money to raise. We have support from our community with in-memoriam gifts, but our business, our financial community coming to our support is invaluable." Run by the VON of Oxford, Sakura House offers a lavish, tranquil setting for local residents to live out their final days with family and friends close by.
