ZORRA - The Township of Zorra has unveiled three new Memorial Tree Signs today at Grace Patterson Park, Embro Pond and the Harrington Conservation Area.
Township of Zorra Mayor Margaret Lupton tells why they created the signs. "This was a request from the residents who had seen signs like this in other areas and wanted something in Zorra so we decided we would do the three at the Conservation area."
In order to have a loved ones name erected on the sign you have to take part in the Townships tree planting program. Municipal Clerk Karen Martin tells Heart FM over 60 people have planted a tree in memory of a loved one over the past couple of years and the program has been around since 1995. "Residents or non residents are able to purchase a tree from the Conservation Authority for $40 and have it planted somewhere throughout the municipality that the Conservation Authority see's fit or where the individual purchasing a tree would like to see it planted in a park or somewhere throughout the municipality.
Over the past couple of years people have paid to have a tree planted in honour of a fallen loved one at the three conservation area. They did leave plenty of space on the signs for anyone looking to participate.
