The ratification votes are in for Cami employees and membership voted 85.9% in favour of the offer.
INGERSOLL - It looks like GM employees from Cami in Ingersoll will be heading back to work.
The ratification votes are in and membership voted 85.9% in favour of the offer. Skilled Traded votes 78.7% in favour of their offer. This means employees will head back to work tonight with the first shift starting at 11:00 pm.
The deal includes a 4 percent raise over four years and a $2,000 lump sum each year for four years.
It does not include an elite plant status letter to build the Chevy Equinox. Plant chair for Local 88 Mike Van Boekel says while they couldn't get the letter they were able to get some more job security.
"We talked to GM and we have put some major penalties in place if they want to lay us off in the future, or try and close the plant, it's almost a $300 million dollar penalty now payable to the membership if they want to do any layoffs or try to close the plant in the future. We couldn't get the lead, but on the other hand we have made it extremely tough or extremely expensive for them to leave."
Van Boekel says the membership is ready to get back to work.
"I think most people were fairly relieved, four weeks is a long time to go without money for individuals or families, so it's good to get it behind us and hopefully move on from here."
