Life long resident and dairy farmer Douglas Matheson files for Ward 4 in Zorra Township.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP- Life long Zorra resident Douglas Matheson has filed his papers to run in the election this fall. Matheson is seeking the Ward 4 position and intends to apply his business knowledge to council.
"Being in business all my working life, I feel I can contribute something to the budget process." Matheson has worked in the dairy business for the past 40 years.
One of his main concerns is the assessment values of quality agricultural land here in Oxford County. "We need to see value for the higher assessment values that are being attached to the farm land."
In a Valco consultants report, Oxford county had the highest median land value (among other counties) in 2013 per tillable acre at just over 16 thousand dollars.
"We do have some of the best farmland I believe anywhere in the world, in the Township and the assessment values are reflecting that which is only natural, and I want to see value for the services."
Matheson lists his community involvement as a former 4-H leader and member of the milk committee.
