Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says our ICU numbers could determine when kids will be able to return to in-class learning.
WOODSTOCK - Kids won't be returning to in class learning next week after the Spring Break.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says she understands how difficult this is for parents, kids and workplaces.
"Like you, I want to see Ontario's children in schools but with cases so high and hospitalizations so high and more younger people becoming ill, the Province took this step."
Dr. Lock says the biggest thing to watch for to get kids back to class is the ICU numbers.
"Our numbers are beyond what we saw during the peak of the second wave and we have not yet reached the peak of this third wave. I think the Premier will be taking every avenue to encourage Ontario citizens to stay at home, in an effort to decrease spread and so that we will have fewer people require hospitalization and ICU admission. I think we need to keep an eye on what is happening at our acute care facilities and when there seems to be some increase in capacity there, we will consider opening things up more and the first place we will open up is schools."
Dr. Lock did encourage people to get outside and enjoy the Spring weather, just maintain physical distance and follow the guidelines.
