You can add comedian Greg Morton to the list of names considered to have a street named after them.
WOODSTOCK - One comedian's contributions in Woodstock has made him among the names to be considered for a street in the future.
Friends of comedian Greg Morton made a proposal to Woodstock City Council. Morton is a renowned comedian who was born and raised in Woodstock.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says they have added Morton to the list of names that will be considered.
"We have added his name to the list of other individuals who have made significant contributions in the community and going forward as new streets and subdivisions are developed, council will be making choices for those individuals from that list."
Morton's philanthropy has helped organizations in the community, including the Lions Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Woodstock.
Mayor Birtch says Morton has had a great impact in the community.
"He has had such a great impact. It's not just the fundraising but it's also the way he reaches out to individuals and he continues to encourage, especially the young people in the community that they can use their gifts to reach their fullest potential."
He has also contributed to College Avenue Secondary School, donating thousands of dollars from his fundraising shows to improve and expand the school's music program. Morton was a former student at CASS.
Morton's career has spanned over 3 decades, appearing on Just For Laughs and as a featured guest on morning and midday radio shows in the United States.
Among his career highlights include his parody song "Obama Man" which has reached over four million views on YouTube, an opening act for Celine Dion and Harry Connick Jr. at Radio City Music Hall and voice-over work for Scooby-Doo.
