OXFORD COUNTY - Time is running out for families in need to apply for some financial assistance this back-to-school season.
This Friday is the registration deadline for the Supplies4Students program through United Way Oxford. Those who are signed up will receive a gift card to do their back-to-school shopping so they can buy exactly what they need.
Executive Director Kelly Gilson says the program helped over 1,300 students from 649 families last year alone.
"Every single publicly funded school through our school boards has families registered. So there is not a pocket here or a pocket there, this is an issue that affecting families all over our community."
As of mid-July this year, Gilson says 860 students were already registered for the program. In terms of donations, a total of $9,000 had been raised for Supplies4Students at that point. United Way Oxford is also hoping to raise $75,000 for the program this year and you can donate online here.
