A few Ontario organizations will be hosting a Barn Fire Prevention event at the Mount Elgin Community Centre Friday.
MOUNT ELGIN - South-West Oxford Emergency Services are set to hold the first ever Barn Fire Prevention seminar this Friday.
They will be joined in hosting the event by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs also by Equine Guelph. The session is at the Mount Elgin Community Centre Friday December, 7th from 9:00 a.m and 12:00 p.m. Organizer of the event, Troy Moffat is a volunteer fireman for South-West Oxford says that its time someone took action.
"It wasn't any particular fire, there has been a series of them over the last couple of years. We thought well nobody has done anything to improve the situation so realistically if nobody puts forth any prevention on the situation, how do we reasonably expect that there's going to be a different outcome tomorrow."
Moffat also had this to add.
"We determined in South-West Oxford, as well as in Ontario that there wasn't enough information, or education for the farming community. So what we wanted to do is to provide a service that brings together industry professionals so we can give as much fire prevention and information as possible to the masses."
Admission is free to the seminar and it gives a chance for people to learn how they can keep their farm and barn safer.
