The Woodstock Junior Navy Vets U11 and U15 teams both won gold this weekend at the St. Thomas Boston Pizza Cup Tournament.
WOODSTOCK - It was a great weekend for the Woodstock Junior Navy Vets at the St. Thomas Boston Pizza Cup Tournament.
The Jr. Navy Vets sent four teams to the tournament this year, one for each division. The U11 and U15 boys both took home the gold medal.
In a great show of support, the U15 boys were on hand to watch the U11's win gold. U-11 Assistant coach Rich Morton says it meant the world to his players.
"I think that the kids, were probably more happy about the big kids cheering them on, then they were about winning the tournament."
You can watch the video of them cheering on the boys below:
Morton says several U-11's stuck around to cheer on the U15's too as they won gold in the finals.
"It was good to see some of the long kids stick around and cheer on the big kids, it was a long weekend but they stuck around to show their support."
Remember this is the first tournament these kids have had almost two years. For most of the U-11's it was their very first one. Morton says it was a great weekend for the kids.
"It was really special, it was really good for the kids. These kids are were well coached already for the last couple of years, but they have only been able to play half ice games, so this full ice game is pretty new to them, so they have come a long way in the last couple of weeks."
