The Woodstock Junior Navy Vets are helping out a friend in their latest fundraiser.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Junior Navy Vets will be spreading some holiday cheer and supporting Xavier's Hope.
The Woodstock Junior Navy Vets Peewee Team is hosting a Holiday Market at Goff Hall on Saturday, November 19th from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Originally the market was intended as a fundraiser solely for the team, but the players came together and wanted to support another cause according to Helper and hockey mom Tina Readman.
"Some of the boys who attend Algonquin Public School were inspired by Xavier Garrett and definitely inspired by Xavier's Hope. And so with the blessing of Xavier's mom and the support of Xavier's teacher, a portion of our sales will be going to support Xavier's Hope."
Readman says seeing the boys get involved in something like this isn't unusual, and it is due to the mentorship of the Junior Navy Vet staff.
"One of the things we have to credit is the coaches; They've delivered the same message year after year and that is to be a Navy Vet player you must exemplify a role model behaviour on and off the ice. And as a team the boys have taken that to heart, they participate in things like the Terry Fox Run, Toy Drives, Salvation Army's gift giving, and most recently they supported a youth clothing drive for a local family that lost all their personal belongings in a house fire. This was something natural that just came to them knowing Xavier and knowing what the family's going through."
The Holiday Market will feature everything from holiday and home decor to homemade crafts, gifts, and sweets. T-shirts and bracelets from Xavier's Hope will also be available for purchase.
