Woodstock Police and Brantford Police are teaming up in an effort to curb human trafficking in our cities.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police and the Brantford Police Service have joined forces to tackle the delicate issue of human trafficking and offer assistance to those working in the sex trade.
Last week officers in both communities made contact with nine females involved in the sex trade in Woodstock in Brantford. All of the women involved were offered assistance by police and informed of the community services available to them.
The women declined those services and did appear to be working independently. Investigators do believe however that one of the workers was a victim to human trafficking; however she declined to co-operate with police.
"Members of the Woodstock Police Service and the Brantford Police Service remain committed to assisting victims of the sex trade and investigating criminal offences committed by individuals exploiting sex trade workers. Both police services will continue to work in partnership."
Anyone with information on human trafficking or the sex trade in our communities are asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-421-TIPS (8477) or toll free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Citizens can also contact members of the Brantford Police Service, Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 519-756-7050 or Woodstock Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch at 519-537-2323.
